Veteran Japanese adult game company Illusion is taking the whole “virtual girlfriend” scene to the next level with VR Girlfriend (“VR Kanojo” in Japan) a VR headset experience that lets players virtually enter an imaginary girlfriend’s room to interact with and eventually have sex. The producers say they are focused on making players feel the girlfriend is really there.
In mainstream games gameplay always trumps graphics. In adult gaming that tends to be the opposite. Many adult VR games have attempted to create visually realistic looking characters and environments while gameplay suffers and not much of an interactive experience is left. There are also barely any obstacles to overcome in adult gaming unlike mainstream titles where a series of challenges and tasks are prominent and often considered the highlight of the game.
VR Girlfriend changes all of this. The game is all about winning the central character’s affections to the point where sex happens. Often in times (like real life), this is no easy task. Of course, the amount of depth that will go into this aspect of VR Girlfriend is yet to be seen.
VR Girlfriend is scheduled to be released in January 2017 and will be compatible with the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.
